What does ESD mean? Anti-static stools and chairs

ESD refers to all discharges of electrostatic origin. Obviously there are some of greater and lesser intensity, but in general they are all abbreviated under the name of ESD.

We would like to point out that most ESD discharges occur below the threshold of human perception. Therefore, they do not appear to be a risk to our health.

What damage do ESD discharges cause?

As previously mentioned, ESD discharges do not normally generate any type of damage or side effect on human health.

But then why do ESD products exist?

If as far as people are concerned, ESD discharges do not generate problems of any kind, the same cannot be applied to electrical appliances and devices.

ESD discharges, in fact, can put these devices at risk, as they could damage small components inside electronic devices.

Antistatic products were created to respond to this need: to allow the worker, in certain production chains, to operate without damaging the ”health of electrical devices”.

What are ESD or anti-static products?

ESD or antistatic products are part of a niche of technical equipment usually used in specific production departments to allow the treatment of certain electronic small parts.

The ESD products in which we specialize are:

Anti-static chairs and stools

Anti-static chairs and stools are technical products created to discharge ESD charges to the ground. Antistatic products (in this article we will refer to those we produce) differ from their normal versions, with regards to their composition and intended use.

Anti-static stool and chair materials

The ESD world supply chain is vast, for this reason the quantity of variants of these models is very high.

To respond to the multiple demands of the market we produce anti-static chairs with different finishes, among which the following stand out:

  • Antistatic polyurethane
  • Anti-static imitation leather
  • Anti-static fabric

 

These three materials meet most needs. Polyurethane is an extremely wear-resistant material and suitable for operational contexts, as well as certain laboratories or clean rooms.

Imitation leather and fabric are two upholsterings that provide greater comfort than polyurethane, and are suitable for less operational, but equally high-performance contexts.

Obviously these are not normal coatings, but they too are antistatic, because they must avoid the creation of electrostatic charges and facilitate their dispersion.

Components for antistatic chairs and stools

 

Antistatic chairs and stools have many components in common with chairs and stools in the standard versions, but they have others which, instead, are molded with antistatic material.

These are always extremely ductile and technical products. Just like all our other productions, here too the degree of customization is high and allows us to obtain perfect products for almost all working contexts.

We can in fact interchange to taste:

  • Fixed or adjustable antistatic armrests
  • Anti-static footrests
  • Various types of columns for gas height adjustment
  • A selection of 5-spoke bases
  • Anti-static castors, glides or bell glides

To give you an example, we insert here the product which, as standard, has the majority of these components. This is the Gref 266 model, belonging to the Ergonomy range.

The aforementioned range includes many variants, which differ from each other in the size of the backrest or the heights at which the seat can be adjusted.

In conclusion

ESD world is extremely technical and regulated by certain rules, which are different from those of the world concerning office and work chairs.
