Antistatic workbenches: how they work

A workbench is an absolutely essential tool for all production entities. Above it, all the assemblies are carried out, starting from the simplest, up to the most complex.

There are many types of workbench, different from each other because they are intended for various types of assembly, but all share some specific characteristics. Let’s see briefly, therefore, how these workbenches should be.

The essential characteristics of a workbench are: solidity, sturdiness, durability, resistance to the various stresses undergone and the ability to support heavy weights. A good workbench must be equipped with a large surface, which allows it to contain all the tools its user needs and which allows him to work in total tranquility.

Today, however, we want to talk about a specific niche of workbenches, namely those for the electronics sector. The antistatic workbenches.

All those benches on which electronic components are handled must ensure that the latter are not damaged by electrostatic discharges, as well as the operator. How do you prevent this from happening?

To do this, the table must be able to discharge electrostatic charges directly to the ground and prevent them from forming. The two main components are the structure and the work plan. The structure must be painted with static dissipative powders, while the top must be connected to earth via an earth node.

An earth node, to be clear, is the preferential track through which electrostatic charges flow and prevent them from passing through the human body or the equipment used by it.

Not only antistatic benches

We have seen the importance of antistatic workbenches, but we know very well that just that is not enough to complete a real antistatic workstation.

In fact, another important component of the antistatic workstation is the chair that will be positioned in front of the desk. This chair must also respect certain characteristics and be built according to precise standards. Grendene, through its line of Gref products, offers a solution to this “problem”. Gref line includes 3 series of antistatic work chairs and stools: Work series, Comfort series and Ergonomy series.

antistatic workbenchesWork and Comfort series are work chairs and stools, with the special feature of being antistatic. The Ergonomy series is the most elaborate of the three, in fact these chairs are real ergonomic armchairs, like office ones, to be clear, but they too have the “plus” of being antistatic.

If we want to find a place for them, we could say that Work and Comfort antistatic chairs are more suitable for a production department, where the operator is much more dynamic; while Ergonomy chairs are more suitable for a laboratory, where the operator performs more static operations.

Also with regard to the finishes of the antistatic chairs, Grendene is committed to offering diversified solutions. Just like for normal work chairs and stools, there are padded versions upholstered in fabric or imitation leather, or the version with seat and back in polyurethane.

Here we can see the antistatic chair mod. Gref 245 in polyurethane and the ergonomic antistatic stool mod. Gref 270 in fabric. Visit our website and discover our line of Gref antistatic chairs. Contact us to find out which one may be more suitable for your needs.
