Sustainable fabrics

In a world where we are increasingly moving towards sustainability in every field, it is essential to do your part to contribute to the cause.

This is because especially in recent centuries, the environment around us has become polluted, causing heavy damage to it and to all the beings that inhabit it, even leading to the extinction of some species.

When we think of pollution, emissions from cars or large production plants immediately come to mind. In reality, we should know that there are many factors and behaviors that negatively impact our environment.

One of the causes of pollution, that we often don’t think about, is the disposal of our old clothes and the creation of new ones, often through fast fashion.

This is why we recommend a choice of fabrics, whether for clothes, work chairs and stools or anything else, increasingly oriented towards environmental responsibility.

But what makes fabrics sustainable?

In order to be defined as sustainable, a fabric must respect various characteristics. Certainly, the working method of a manufacturing company has a huge impact. A company that works sustainably pays close attention to:

  • Limit water consumption;
  • Use polluting agents as little as possible;
  • Support energy needs with photovoltaic panels;
  • Use, where possible, recycled materials with controlled origins.

Another aspect not to be excluded concerns the way in which we interface with the purchase of certain products, there are a series of guidelines to which we should pay attention:

  • Do not over-purchase products that we may not need;
  • Pay attention to the production origin of the products, whether they are made in Italy for example or produced by responsible companies;
  • Prefer brands that use recycled fabrics;
  • Do not purchase synthetic fiber fabrics.

Absolutely not! Indeed, more often than not these items have greater durability and high performance.

You are probablyu rightly wondering ”so why have these polluting fabrics have got a foothold?”. The answer lies in production times and their cost.

The only reason why we have begun to prefer these polluting materials, which certainly offer very similar performances to sustainable fabrics, is because of the largely reduced cost and, therefore, for personal gain.

These are fabrics that are difficult to recycle and their disposal causes significant damage to our ecosystem.

How to dispose of our fabrics

Even in this sector, therefore, recycling becomes vitally important. In recent years, various realities have been created, whose task is to facilitate this ecological process.

Our commitment

In this final part, we at Grendene Chairs can tell you about our experience. For years we have paid close attention to the sustainability of our production process.

Just as what happens with the selection of one type of wood rather than another, also when it comes to the choice of fabrics to be included in the catalogue, Grendene Chairs takes various factors into consideration.

Thanks to the ongoing relationship with our fabric supplier partners, we carry out a series of evaluations in order to include in the catalog only fabrics that can further enrich our ergonomic office chairs.

In the current color chart, for example, all fabrics are fireproof and recyclable. But, in addition to these characteristics, which are now essential, an increasingly careful look must be paid to certifications.

ecolabel logo, sustainable fabricA very important certification, for example, is the Ecolabel certification. It ensures that a product, while guaranteeing high performance standards, is characterized by a low environmental impact.

Another important certification is the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, which certifies that every single thread of the fabric has been tested for harmful substances and found not to be harmful to human health.

 Our commitment for the future is to include fabrics made with recycled, as well as recyclable, material, in the next color chart. All this, obviously, without lowering the current quality standard.

Hoping to have shed light on a topic as important as it is underestimated and to have shown you our commitment, we propose ourselves for your current or future needs.

We therefore invite you to stay in touch with us also through our social profiles.
