Productivity and office chairs

In the modern working context, choosing the right office chair has become essential to improve the producticity of employees.

In this article we want to talk, also involving our know-how, about the correlation between the comfort offered by an ergonomic office chair and work performance in the workplace.

As already seen in other articles, we know that a comfortable and cozy environment positively influences the performance of a worker. Nowadays the most difficult challenge is to offer simple and intelligent solutions to the various problems of office life.

All this, without sacrificing aesthetics. It may seem strange, but when an object is beautiful and pleasing to the eye, its use is also more pleasant. All of this is unconsciously conditioned by our brain.

A series of studies carried out by authoritative laboratories has shown that the adoption of modern and high-performance office chairs has increased employee productivity by up to 17%.

Ergonomics in office chairs

In this paragraph we intend to focus more on the ergonomic-functional aspect. Office chairs are a product that we have been on the market for several decades. As in any field, over the years, there are evolutions.

An office chair, nowadays, must necessarily be ergonomic. This means that the chair in question must be equipped with a series of devices aimed at guaranteeing and promoting the physical well-being, and consequently the mental one, of the worker.

Among the various pieces of equipment, the most important  are certainly mechanism, armrests and lumbar support, all of which must be adjustable according to the needs of each of us.

Then there are also complementary equipment, such as headrest, which enrich the seat, making it even more complete.

productivityThe importance of adjustment mechanisms

At Grendene, in the design phase of a new office swivel chair, we carry out a careful study of the mechanisms with which to configure it, in order to offer the best movement experience for the user.

A mechanism that makes us particularly proud, due to its simplicity of use and its performance duration over time, is the synchronized mechanism that we use on our professional seating lines, both operational and executive.

This mechanism allows the simultaneous movement of the seat and the backrest in order to accompany the user in his movements, making them become as natural as possible in order to allow a dynamic use of the chair.

In fact, when the user reclines the backrest, the seat moves simultaneously, thus helping to maintain the natural shape of the back and not allowing the formation of lumbar pain.

Numerous studies on ergonomics suggest, in fact, a dynamic use of the swivel chair. For this reason, a synchronized movement usually has the following settings:

  • seat height adjustment
  • simultaneous movement of seat and backrest, lockable in different positions
  • intensity adjustment based on the user’s weight
  • backrest anti-shock device

To make this component for office chairs even more suitable for professional and intensive use, the “seat slider” can be added, as required by the UNI EN 1335 class A standard. This particular function allows the seat to slide, creating a greater distance between the seat and the backrest.

This is a very useful solution for tall people, as they will gain seating space without compromising the level of comfort.
