The choice of the right materials for chairs, whether for office, waiting or community use, is often underestimated.
In this article we would like to provide you with a guide that highlights the peculiarities of each upholstery.
When choosing the upholstery for our chair, we must keep in mind the characteristics of the material, i.e. resistance to wear, the comfort provided and the maintenance processes of the material.
Specifically, we will analyze fabric, imitation leather and leather coverings, explaining their characteristics divided into the three points mentioned above.
1. Chair materials: leather
Leather is a coating that provides extremely high comfort, thanks to its extreme softness to the touch. We must keep in mind that it is a high-cost material (certainly the highest of the three) and that requires particular attention during maintenance.
Leather durability
Leather is an upholstery which, if of good quality and with the right maintenance, is very durable over time.
In fact, we often receive, thanks also to our maintenance service, leather seats with a few decades of life behind them, which still have the leather in excellent condition.
The basis of the choice of quality leather is a meticulous selection of the supplier.
Comfort of leather among chair materials
As previously mentioned, leather gives a very high degree of satisfaction and comfort to the user. It is a highly comfortable and soft material.
In a management office or in a classy meeting room, it certainly makes a good impression, embellishing and enhancing the rest of the environment.
Leather maintenance
As regards its maintenance, to which we have also dedicated an article on our blog, we must pay close attention.
The advice we give is: do not use anything other than products designed for leather cleaning and use a microfibre cloth to delicately clean the surface.
2. Upholstered chairs in imitation leather
Among the materials for chairs, imitation leather is a type of coating for those who appreciate the sensation that leather gives when used but at the same time are looking for a cheaper alternative.
Grendene imitation leather is a fireproof and certified material. We also have a large upholstery catalogue with countless choices of colours.
Eco leather durability
Like all our coatings, our imitation leathers have also been created and designed to last over time.
Leatherette, in general, is a chair material with good wear resistance. Furthermore, it does not require the same attention that a leather office chair requires.
Eco-leather comfort
As anticipated, imitation leather gives a sensation very similar to that of leather, both to the touch and during use. It is a comfortable and pleasant material, certainly less breathable than fabric, but which still offers excellent support to the user.
It also gives a touch of elegance to the environment in which it is placed.
Eco leather maintenance
From a maintenance point of view, imitation leather requires less treatment than leather.
Here too it is important to use soaps dedicated to cleaning these materials. As with leather, to avoid scratches, it is a good idea to have a microfibre cloth.
Very often, however, just a cloth moistened with water is enough.
3. Chair materials: fabric
Fabric is a chair material that is highly versatile. In our color chart, in fact, you can find multiple types of fabrics and colors to meet your needs.
Our fabric choices are eco-friendly; in fact, we try to offer certified materials with reduced environmental impact.
Fabric durability
Fabric is certainly a very wear-resistant material, with which we can afford to be less ”loving”.
This does not mean that we can treat it badly or set it on fire, even though they are fireproof products.
The comfort of fabrics as chair materials
Obviously, fabrics do not provide the same softness as leather, but we can still appreciate the comfort they have to offer.
Furthermore, they have greater breathability than the other previously mentioned upholsteries and are suitable for all purely operational contexts, such as offices.
Fabric maintenance
In terms of maintenance, fabrics are those that require the least attention, here too the rule of using products suitable for a fabric applies.
For more superficial stains, however, a cloth dampened in water and a light rub will suffice. Grendene office chair fabrics guarantee long-lasting durability.
So, which materials for chairs should you choose?
As you may have noticed, the common line that we at Grendene have applied to our products is that of durability and certified quality.
In summary, if you are looking for an experience of extreme softness, aware of a higher cost and with every intention of putting effort into maintenance, we recommend our seats with the leather finish.
If, however, you are looking for comfort similar to that which leather can give you, but at the same time cheaper and to which we can pay less attention during maintenance, we recommend the eco-leather or imitation leather upholstery.
Last but not least, if you are looking for something resistant with a lower price compared to the other two coatings, more breathable and that can offer, in any case, an excellent ergonomic experience, we strongly recommend considering a seat with a fabric upholstery.
Inside our color chart you can find various types, all available in an infinite number of colors.
In general, our advice is to always choose coatings in dark shades, so that you can notice less of the dirt that, very often, is passed through jeans and jackets.
