Recyclable office chairs

Our planet is in desperate need of being treated with care. The reasons are many and it is not up to us to explain how many and what they are. What we at Grendene can essentially do is to create office chairs that are recyclable or, at least, as sustainable as possible and to sensitize users to understand their importance.

For several years now we have been engaged in the use of materials that, once they reach the end of their life cycle, can be recycled in order to avoid waste and can sometimes find new life through new uses.

Recyclable office chairs: the materials used

The office chairs and armchairs of our production, as well as our work stools, are a mix of various materials. Those mainly used are wood, aluminum, nylon and polyurethane.

Wood is a natural material and is the recyclable material par excellence. In our productions it is mainly used for seats and backrests, but in the case of our presidential chair mod. President L is also used for the armrests and for the base covers.

The wood we use comes from FSC certified forests, i.e. forests that are managed in compliance with rigorous environmental, social and economic standards.

Aluminum, on the other hand, is a metal and it is also a recyclable material; just think of its increasingly frequent use in the food sector (ex. cans, food boxes, etc.) or for the production of components for means of transport. In our productions we use it for bases, armrests and mechanisms of various models.

The polyurethane, used for the paddings of the chairs or for the creation of seats, backrests or armrests, can be recycled; Thanks to its high calorific value, it can in fact be used for the production of energy, avoiding the use of other resources. But this is not the only method of recycling that exists.

Through other types of processes it is possible to convert it into a raw material useful for the production of insulation panels for construction.

Our policy

To facilitate the reuse of various materials, we design our chairs from an eco-design perspective and build them in such a way that they are easily disassembled, but also resistant and durable, so as to extend their life cycle.

With the aim of further extending the life cycle of the product, we also offer a repair and replacement service on our chairs that may already have several years of life behind them. Often this allows the chairs to live two lives and from this derives our payoff “Never Ending Chairs”.
